Policing update:

The following is a local policing update for the Rural Flegg Villages neighbourhood

Weekly crime summary 15 November 2016

 Remembrance Day parade

Hundreds of people turned out to support the annual Remembrance Sunday service at the weekend.  Members of Great Yarmouth police cadets joined the parade through the town into St George’s Park before gathering around the Cenotaph to remember those that have given their lives in the service of their country.

Norfolk police target drivers using their mobiles

Police motorcyclists using plain bikes will be hitting the highways in Norfolk and Suffolk targeting drivers who use their mobile phone behind the wheel.

Operation Ringtone will see officers patrolling the roads with marked and unmarked cars and motorcycles, all fitted with cameras to obtain evidence to help secure successful prosecutions.

New unmarked motorcycles will be used to target drivers using mobiles in the most dangerous situations, particularly faster roads such as the A11 in Norfolk and A14 in Suffolk.

The launch coincides with a week-long national campaign led by the National Police Chiefs Council, which encourages all forces in England and Wales to target the offence.

Community Speed Watch

Great Yarmouth residents are being encouraged to get involved in Community Speed Watch in their neighbourhood.

In an effort to help tackle the common complaint of speeding, teams of a minimum of 6 volunteers, who have their parish council’s support, are trained to use speed guns.  The groups are issued with a speed radar gun, 2 Community Speed Watch signs and reflective jackets and carry out speed checks in 30 and 40mph limits working to Norfolk Constabulary’s Community Speed Watch guidelines.

Returns are then sent to the Safety Camera Partnership team who obtain the registered keeper details for the vehicles logged and contact the keeper requesting them to keep their speed down.

A very positive meeting was held on Saturday 25 November for the Gorleston area and we only require two more volunteers to be able to set up a Community Speed Watch team for the Bells Road/Englands Lane area.  If anyone wishes to join the team they can contact PC Hannah Gardiner, local Engagement Officer, on 101.

A meeting is also being held this evening for the North Yarmouth Community Speed Watch team at 7pm in the Lacon Arms pub on Alderson Road.  PC Gardiner will be available to offer advice and information for anyone wishing to become a volunteer for the Alderson Road/Palgrave Road area.
