Great Yarmouth burst water main important update
Work to repair a burst water main at the junction of Hall Quay and Haven Bridge has continued through the night with engineers from the water company removing 4.5 metres of burst pipe.
Oliver Rogers from Essex & Suffolk Water said: “It is a 15 inch diameter cast iron water main that’s burst and we’ve been working hard to locate and fix it.
Temporary traffic lights have been installed by Essex & Suffolk Water that have restricted South Quay to one lane and a diversion has also been put in place.
The diversion route is via Breydon Bridge, Vauxhall roundabout and North Quay.
Haven Bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists in both directions.
Road restrictions are likely to remain in place until the weekend and motorists are advised to take extra time for their journeys and to avoid the area if possible to prevent substantial travel delays.
“I’d like to thank motorists, pedestrians and cyclists in Great Yarmouth for their patience during these works and reassure them Essex & Suffolk Water is working as fast as possible to carry out these emergency repairs,” said Oliver.

Appeal for help to trace owners of stolen bikes discovered in Great Yarmouth
Police are appealing for information following bike thefts in the Great Yarmouth area in a bid to reunite them with their rightful owners.
Bikes, including BMX, mountain and road racing styles, as well as dismantled parts, including frames and wheels, were seized following a search of an address in Lancaster Road in the town on Friday 12 February 2016.
Despite enquiries, police have been unable to identify who the bikes belong to, so they’re appealing for anyone who may be able to help to come forward.
If you believe you may be able to help identify the owners of the bikes please contact PC Andrew Thirtle at Great Yarmouth Police Station on 101.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods in connection with this incident. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
