SMEE Update

A few photographs to update you on the progress of the nettle removal by our SMEE Volunteers today who report that
the weather was very kind to them as they tackled the big nettle bed under the coppiced hazel.
There were buzzards overhead (alas no photograph) and also a Large White butterfly and a Red Admiral Butterfly, as well as a number of Common Darter dragonflies still in evidence on the reserve – this one landed on the wheelbarrow!

Casual Vacancy

The Parish Council are looking to co-opt new Councillors at future meetings. There are multiple vacancies currently so if you would like to be considered for this voluntary position then please contact the Parish Clerk on clerk@martham.gov.uk/07736 917769

Common Road SMEE-Volunteers update

Here are some photos from the latest work session at Common Rd Smee.

Thanks to all those who turned out to help. The weather was very kind to us and we were able to hand remove an area of Stinging Nettles. We  hope to incorporate that area into the grassland over the next twelve months.

A further nettle section was cut back and raked off. A picture of the vegetation that was removed is enclosed plus a couple of photos of some of the wildlife that we saw today – a Large Skipper butterfly and a Southern Hawker dragonfly. Our next session to cut and rake off the meadow will be on Saturday 7th August.

Community Events

Once the Parish Council are able to give permission to hold events once again we have been asked to advice people the following by GYBC.

When organising events within the Community and n line with government guidance Great Yarmouth Borough Council are asking for event organisers to complete an event notification form.  This will ensure that the correct health and safety, together with any Covid advice can be given and that the event if needed, be taken to the Event Safety Advisory Group for approval and further advice from our partners.

You can find the link to the form which is on their website here https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/events-guide/notify-us-of-an-event
