Common Road SMEE-Volunteers update

Here are some photos from the latest work session at Common Rd Smee.

Thanks to all those who turned out to help. The weather was very kind to us and we were able to hand remove an area of Stinging Nettles. We  hope to incorporate that area into the grassland over the next twelve months.

A further nettle section was cut back and raked off. A picture of the vegetation that was removed is enclosed plus a couple of photos of some of the wildlife that we saw today – a Large Skipper butterfly and a Southern Hawker dragonfly. Our next session to cut and rake off the meadow will be on Saturday 7th August.

Community Events

Once the Parish Council are able to give permission to hold events once again we have been asked to advice people the following by GYBC.

When organising events within the Community and n line with government guidance Great Yarmouth Borough Council are asking for event organisers to complete an event notification form.  This will ensure that the correct health and safety, together with any Covid advice can be given and that the event if needed, be taken to the Event Safety Advisory Group for approval and further advice from our partners.

You can find the link to the form which is on their website here https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/events-guide/notify-us-of-an-event

Next Parish Council Meeting

Meetings will now take place at the Community Centre at the usual time of 7.30pm. Please note that the meeting date for June has been moved to Wednesday 23 June in accordance with the government roadmap.

Common Road SMEE Volunteer update…

The wonderful volunteers who take care of the Common Road Smee have shared some beautiful photos after the paths around the grassland cut for the first time this year. The first Orange-tip Butterfly of the year was spotted during the cut. They may also have a session at the end of May, beginning of June, to try and hand remove the nettles under the trees to try and encourage the other plants to thrive.
