Appeal for witnesses after attempted theft of dog in Bradwell

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an attempted theft of a dog in Bradwell at the weekend.

The incident happened on Sunday 25 September 2016 at approximately 6pm on Jews Lane. The victim was walking her dog in the direction of Falklands Surgery when an unknown man approached her and tried to pull the dog lead from her hand. After a short tussle the man fled the scene allowing the victim to return home and contact the police.

The man is described as being white and aged in his 20s. He is approximately 5ft 10in in height and of a skinny build with stubble on his face. He was wearing a grey hooded long sleeve top with baggy blue denim jeans and black trainers which were very worn.

Detective Sergeant Mark Scott said: “Whilst this is the first report we have received of this kind in Bradwell I would like to urge local dog owners to remain vigilant. Anyone who saw this male or has information pertinent to the case can contact me at Great Yarmouth CID on 101.”

You can help protect your dog against theft by taking the following precautions:

  • Vary the times and routes of your dog walks
  • Your dog must be microchipped and should wear a collar and ID tag with your contact details on it when in a public place (but avoid putting your dog’s name on the ID tag) and you should ensure that all contact details are kept up to date
  • Take lots of photographs of you with your dog to help identify them and prove ownership
  • Think twice before leaving your dog tied up outside a shop as they are a tempting target for opportunist thieves
  • Don’t leave your dog alone in the car as thieves can easily break into your car and steal your precious pet

If you have any concerns about suspicious activity whilst out with your pet then please contact us on 101 or alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Police Update:

The following is a local policing update for the Rural Flegg Villages neighbourhood

Weekly crime summary 20 September 2016

This weekend the Out There International Festival of Street Arts & Circus took place in Great Yarmouth.  Despite the cooler weather the event was really well attended with over 50,000 people visiting the town.

We undertook visible foot beat patrols with officers and cadets working with partner agencies to manage the event, which was fantastic and passed with very few issues.

It was great to see the town can host such a big event with no increase in crime and a family friendly atmosphere throughout.

We would like to thank the people of Great Yarmouth and beyond for your participation and attendance. Without you the event would not have been such a great success.
